Western Ocean Walking Weekend
Western Ocean Walking Weekend
This fabulous walking weekend in northwest Mayo takes place over the Easter weekend in early April 2021, in a land dominated by the North Atlantic.
The barony of Erris occupies this far corner of Mayo – a spectacular landscape of Atlantic blanket bog, high sea cliffs, low-lying peninsulas and seemingly never-ending beaches.
Location : The Mullet Peninsula occupies the far NW corner of Mayo – a spectacular landscape dominated by the wild North Atlantic, boasting high sea cliffs, low-lying field systems, seemingly never-ending beaches and stunning offshore islands.
Level : Easy to moderate.
Duration : Friday evening to Monday afternoon (3 nights; 2.5 days walking)
Description :
Day One : Arrival and dinner in Belmullet, followed by drive to our excellent B&B at Blacksod (An Fód Dubh) and orientation.
Day Two : The truly wonderful cliff-top walk at An Ceathrú Thaidhg, in the far corner of NW Mayo. We follow that with a second, shorter stroll on Erris Head’s beautiful cliff-top walk.
Day Three : Out on the wonderful, evocative Iniskea Islands, deserted since the 1930s and now home to seabirds and wildlife (subject to weather).
Day Four : Walking The Mullet peninsula, with its fabulous beaches and views to take the breath away. Visits along the way to a tiny ruined medieval church in a stunning location and a holy well by the sea.
For this walking weekend, we stay in one of the finest B&Bs on the Wild Atlantic Way, where we enjoy 3 B&B nights. It’s located right beside one of the best pubs in the West of Ireland.
Included : Collection from and return to Castlebar train station, three nights B&B, three packed lunches, three dinners, along with full guiding throughout and the boat trip out to Iniskea. A magical weekend in Mayo!
Not included : Your return train trip to Castlebar, drinks and miscellaneous purchases.
