Hiking the Turquoise Trail to Bavaria.

A beautiful week of hiking by the turquoise flow of the Lech, one of Europe’s finest wild rivers.

We begin in the open Austrian meadows of the Lechtal (valley) and finish in the historic Bavarian town of Füssen. Hiking is mostly on valley floors and paths, with modest ascents on three days, offering you glorious mountain views without the need for steep climbing.

Next Dates : June 2027 (exact dates tbc)

Location : Austrian Tyrol and southern Bavaria.

Level : Moderate, with occasional stretches of tougher ascents.

Distance Walked Per Day : From 10km to 23km (longer days can be shortened by jumping on a bus).

Duration : 8 days, 7 nights, 6 days of walking.

Description :

A wonderful week of hiking, surrounded by spectacular Alpine mountain scenery.

We spend the first four days walking by the beautiful Lech River, crossing from Tyrol into southern Germany. The second half of the week is based in Füssen, with its cobblestones and frescoed façades, where we explore local lakeside loops and visit the famous castles of King Ludwig II at Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein.

A highlight of the week is our cable car trip up Tegelberg mountain, where we enjoy lunch in a mountaintop restaurant and hike back down (no climbing involved).

This is a week of superb hiking through stunning countryside, with plenty of time for enjoyment of Germanic cuisine, beer and culture along the way.

Prices for this new 2027 tour are as follows.

€ 1,995 per person sharing

€ 2,195 per single room booking (limited number available)

A deposit of €400 per person, paid by bank transfer (IBAN), is required to provisionally reserve your place, subject to minimum numbers as required, availability and further payments later.

Full tour details will be outlined in the documentation forwarded to you.

Included : All transfers within Austria & Germany, seven nights B&B, 4 sit-down lunches, 7 dinners, luggage transfers, scheduled site visits, along with full guiding throughout.

Both shared and single room bookings are available for this week.

Not included : Your return flight to Germany or Austria, cable car trip up a mountain, lunches on days 1, 3, 4 & 8, unscheduled visits, your beverages and miscellaneous purchases.

Please note that all tours are subject to minimum numbers and the payment of a deposit does not guarantee that the tour will take place. If it does not proceed, your deposit will be returned in full.

Do please note that this is a moderate-level hiking tour, so you need to be reasonably fit and have sufficient stamina for consecutive days out hiking in the countryside.

You must have your own travel and health insurance.
