Rome and Pompeii Walking Tour
A week of awe in the glorious Eternal City and down the coast at extraordinary Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and other historical sites of great interest.
In a departure from my other weeks, this Rome and Pompeii Walking Tour is spent in the wonderful urban destinations of Rome and the coastal city of Salerno. The food is great, the wine is great and the company, as always, is great too.
Next Dates : October 2024, exact dates tbc.
Location : Rome and Salerno, Italy.
Level : Easy to moderate, with just one optional tougher incline on one day only. The grading includes ‘moderate’ because walking in cities, while more or less flat, can be tiring.
Distance Walked per Day : No more than 10 – 12km.
(When walking around cities and visitor sites, you should always count at least 10km per day, even if you don’t realise it at the time!)
Duration : 9 days, 8 nights, 7 days of walking, October 2024.
Description :
One of the world’s great cities, a few days in Rome is never enough. However, we do make a good stab at it.
We will stroll the beautiful city centre, visiting some of the essentials, like the Forum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Vatican City and more. We will discover some of the city’s over 800 churches, including one that houses 3 Caravaggios and another where some famous Irish people are buried.
Leaving Rome, we descend by train southwards to the port city of Salerno, base for our discovery of the remarkable Pompeii archaeological park, the Amalfi Coast and the wonderful Greek temples at Paestum. We will also stare into the crater of the mighty Vesuvius.

A deposit of €200 per person is required to provisionally reserve your place, subject to numbers and further payments by bank transfer (IBAN), details of which will be outlined in the tour documentation forwarded to you.
Included : All transfers within Italy (by train), eight nights B&B or hotel, 7 packed lunches, 8 dinners, all visits, along with full guiding throughout.
Not included : Your flight to Rome and back from Naples, lunches on days 1 & 9, your beverages and miscellaneous purchases. Note that, on this tour, we need to carry our own luggage when travelling by public transport.

You must have your own travel and health insurance.
