South of France Guided Walking Week

South of France Guided Walking Week

A wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable week of walking between gorgeous towns and villages in the deep, rural south of France, through mostly oak-dominated native woodlands.

Next Dates : May 2027 (exact dates tbc)

Location : The southern French départements of Lot and Aveyron, located approx 1.5 hours north of Toulouse.

Level : Moderate, but with occasional short stretches of tough inclines and declines.

Distance Walked Per Day : From 12km to 25km.

The longest day can be skipped, if preferred, thanks to a very enjoyable short scenic train trip.

Duration : 8 days, 7 nights, 6 days of walking, one of which with the option of a rest day rambling around a beautiful town.

Description :

Our week takes us between the Lot and the Aveyron Rivers, as we discover this magnificent area of limestone plateaus, dotted with the cutest villages and inhabited by the friendliest French you’ll find.

We walk mostly off-road, through beautiful forests and alongside open fields, from one stunning little village to the next. We enjoy one optional rest day in the beautiful and bustling town of Villefranche, where there is plenty of interest to see and do.

This trip really gets you into the very heart of rural southern France, for a week of great walking, food, wine and company, all at a relaxed pace.

There is no hill climbing involved! However, as we walk along rivers and up on plateaus, there are short stretches of more demanding climbs and descents, but no mountains.

“Dear Lucky Hiker, I have twice experienced Barry’s Guided Tours; France and Spain. Meeting new friends, enriching food and conversational experiences is my kind of travel. I would happily travel with Barry’s Guided Tours again and again.”

Diane K., USA (Walking in the South of France & Catalunya)

“I thoroughly recommend this superb walking trip between beautiful villages in the scenic Aveyron region of southern France. Barry organised and led a really great tour, with well selected hotels and super regional food. The spring green colours in May added very much to the overall walking trip experience.”

Michael D., Dublin (Walking in the South of France)

“We have had a fabulous walking holiday in France with Barry. I feel that I have been to paradise. The walking, the food, the company, the accommodation, the weather and Barry himself could not have been better. We experienced the best of what France has to offer and would highly recommend this trip.”

Ger B., Meath (Walking in the South of France)

Maryann L., USA (Walking in the South of France)

Anne Mc., Kildare (Walking in the South of France)

“Barry runs a great tour, you get to meet nice people, and have good craic. The walking routes are varied and interesting.”

Séamus M., Limerick (Walking in the South of France)

“I spent an amazing week in the Occitanie Région of France with a group of 11, including our wonderful guide Barry Murphy. We stayed in beautiful Medieval  villages. Our accomodation was superb and the food was delicious. The walks were varied and a nice gentle pace off-road. Barry was very knowledgeable, and took great care of us. There was a lovely ambience in the group. I would highly recommend this trip and am considering my next trip with Barry.”

Mary Mc., Meath (Walking in the South of France)

“After a few attempts, I finally managed to get on a Barry’s Guided Tour to France with a friend. A small relaxed group and, despite different nationalities and personalities, there was a lovely atmosphere of support and fun. The walks were well paced and there was the option not to walk on one day and explore the town we were staying in. Accommodation was simple but good and we stayed in a couple of beautiful French villages. Food was very good and varied and we really enjoyed Barry’s recommendations for good wines. A great trip! Looking forward to going on another one.”
