Carrowteige Cliffs Loop Hike

Carrowteige Cliffs Loop Hike

One of the finest clifftop hikes in all of Ireland, this is a fabulous, easy / moderate level day out in wonderful, remote northwest Mayo.

Enjoy the strong West of Ireland wind in your face and the magnificent panoramic views this part of the country offers.

Next Dates : 20 June, 4 July, 18 August 2021

Location : We meet at the shop in Carrowteige (An Ceathrú Thaidhg), which is approx 1.5 hours from Westport and Castlebar, or 1 hour from Ballina.

Level : Easy to moderate. This is a generally easy loop walk. Having said that, there are some ups and downs and you need to be comfortable walking for up to 6 hours.

Duration : approx. 5 – 6 hours.

Description :
We begin by rambling down towards Rinroe beach, but soon gain some height as we move on towards the spectacular cliffs that look out across Broadhaven Bay. Bring your packed lunch, which we will enjoy in a gully along the way that offers us some protection from the Atlantic breezes.

The stretch ahead is simply wonderful, with fabulous cliff scenery all around. If we’re lucky, we’ll get to enjoy the aerobics of Raven and Chough as we go.

Having reached Benwee Head, at 255m, we cross some bog and tracks to return to the shop at Carrowteige.
